Bonita Springs wildlife control tip of the month:

How to get squirrels out of the attic

If you have found that there are squirrels in your attic then there is no doubt that you will want to get rid of these pests. Yes, they may look all cute and cuddly when you see them in cartoons and in movies, but if you have a squirrel or squirrels making a home in your attic then you know they are there to make a mess.

The problem for Bonita Springs exterminators is not only in dealing with the mess they made, but also in figuring out how to get rid of them. Once a squirrel has found a nice place to live they are not excited to leave again. This can make the task of squirrel removal quite daunting – but not impossible.

The first step Bonita Springs wildlife removal takes is to find out where they are getting into your home. This requires a little inspection on your part. Go around the outside of your home and look for areas where the squirrel may have entered. Look for loose boards, holes, gaps, or rotted areas. Make sure that if you find one don’t just stop there. Keep looking to make sure that there are not others.

If you find more than one, at first close up all but what looks like the most commonly used one. This ensures that they all will head out one hole, and that will be the only place you will have to come back to close. To close the gaps, make sure that you securely fasten any loose boards. If there are holes or gaps a good idea is to put some steel wool in the caulking or sealant you use so that the squirrel will not be able to eat through the sealed area.

Now there are two things you need to do next. As it starting to get light, put a heavy lamp in the attic and turn it on as bright as possible. This will startle the squirrel or squirrels and get them running.

What you are looking to do is one of two things. Some Bonita Springs pest control people set a one-way trap outside the hole where they directed the squirrel. They critter will run into it and get trapped and unable to get into it. You then take the trap and release the squirrel somewhere else or just let it pass on to an early grave.

Some Bonita Springs animal trapping choose to do nothing but scare the squirrel outside of the attic. They then go out and close the area and no more squirrel problem.
