Cape Coral wildlife control tip of the month:

Will homeowners insurance pay for raccoon damage?

So one day you find that a raccoon has been making its home inside your attic and has done some real damage. The wiring is messed up. The insulation is shredded and there is raccoon waste everywhere you look. Your house is going to need some repairs and you know it is going to be costly. You wonder if you are going to have to pay for this all on your own, or if your insurance will help pay for this as part of your home owner’s policy. Good question?

What many people don’t consider is that a raccoon can really cause thousands of dollars worth of damage. If they have left plenty of waste in your attic, Cape Coral animal control may need to replace your whole insulation, plus have a thorough cleaning, and maybe even replace some of the ceiling. That can be $10,000 or more, and it is likely that most people do not have that kind of money laying around to just throw away to Cape Coral wildlife removal.

So will your insurance pay for this. In virtually every circumstance the answer is yes. Most home owner’s policies carry a rider that states that any damage caused by a wild animal is covered. This includes mice eating at your electrical wiring and causing a major short, a deer smashing a window in your home, or a raccoon or raccoons causing a gigantic mess in your attic. You have to take care of this and your home owner’s policy will most often take care of this.

If you want to be sure it is important to take a look at your policy and make sure this is included. Also contact your agent to make sure. You will probably find that if you do not have it you simply have to ask to get it at no additional charge. You are welcome to the coverage for free; you simply have to ask Cape Coral pest control for it.

Be aware that it is most likely that not all of your damage will be covered. What this means it that if you have a deductible for your insurance claims, then this part will be paid first before anything else is covered. You may have an out of pocket deductible of $500 or $1000 that you are required to pay, but that is not a huge deal if the total amount to pay is $10,000 or more. You could have paid a lot more money if you did not check with Cape Coral exterminators to make sure you were covered.
